LAS VEGAS—On Feb. 29, Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony of Nevada attended Shen Yun’s evening show at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

During his visit, Gov. Anthony presented a proclamation to welcome and commend Shen Yun performers for their “artistic accomplishments and cultural contributions throughout the world.”

He further stated in the proclamation that the traditional Chinese culture showcased by Shen Yun will “not only entertain but educate, enrich, and inspire audiences of all ages throughout the world with the experience of beauty and goodness.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s top classical Chinese dance and music company. Presenting a brand-new set of programs each year, the company has been delighting audiences around the world since 2006.

“This is an absolutely magnificent production. … This is one of the best productions I’ve ever seen,” Gov. Anthony said.

“Every single [program] was just wonderful. The dancing was so athletic and graceful, the colors—it’s really a tribute to the country of China to be able to bring their history and their culture and traditions here to the state of Nevada, and the city of Las Vegas.”

He thought it was obvious that the crowd loved the show because “they couldn’t stop clapping the entire time.”

Shen Yun’s performance is comprised of a series of short pieces that take its audience on a ride through the dynasties and across the vast regions of China. Using classical Chinese, folk, and ethnic dances, as well as solo musical performances, the artists tell tales from ancient times to the modern day.

Gov. Anthony thoroughly enjoyed Shen Yun’s story-based dances, especially the one depicting life inside a restaurant.

“It was a lot of fun to watch because I used to be in the restaurant business,” he expressed. He also thought the skill and talent of the dancers were perfect.

“The gracefulness of the dancers—the way they move around the stage, jump, turn their arms and legs, and tumble—I didn’t see one flaw in any of the [programs.] It was absolutely flawless.”

Ancient Chinese people were very spiritual and had a deep belief in the divine. For thousands of years, their values and day-to-day actions were strictly governed by the teachings of Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism.

However, after the communist party’s takeover, this was completely destroyed. Today, Shen Yun artists are dedicated to reviving this traditional culture.
Gov. Anthony thought the incorporation of the divine in the show was very wonderful because “heaven is important to every single person.”

The message he will be taking home with him is that “We have to understand that we all come from heaven, and we came down to earth. We do the best we can—there may be some flaws, but we have to sacrifice to make sure we become better people.”

Last but not least, Gov. Anthony would like to thank Shen Yun performers for “coming to the city of Las Vegas and the great state of Nevada to share their athleticism, their grace, and their singing.”

“It’s just wonderful that they bring [the show] to our residence here in Las Vegas so we can enjoy it. You have to come,” Gov. Anthony urged anyone who hasn’t seen Shen Yun yet.

“I know the production comes back every year, but it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You have to come down to see this, you’re not going to see this any place else.”
