MONTREAL, Canada—Fernand Barrier has seen many different shows during his life, but said Shen Yun Performing Arts tops them all.
“This is the best show I’ve seen until now,” Mr. Barrier, who has performed as a baritone, said about the last Shen Yun show at Place des Arts in Montreal on Jan. 9. Shen Yun played four shows in the city.
“The discipline in the show, the grace, the choreography is really the heart of it all. It is all wonderful,” he said.
New York-based Shen Yun was formed by a group of leading classical Chinese artists in 2006 to revive China’s divinely inspired culture. Independent of the Chinese regime, Shen Yun enjoys the artistic freedom in the west and travels around the globe presenting its art to audiences worldwide. Unfortunately, the performance cannot be currently enjoyed in China.
“I think it’s a shame they cannot perform in China,” Mr. Barrier said. “This is an effort to bring the people on Earth back to basic values, the creation, the purpose of life. These are in fact very good values [Shen Yun] is presenting.”
According to the Shen Yun website, “Throughout history, almost every culture looked toward the divine for inspiration. Art was meant to uplift, bringing joy to both the people who created and experienced it. It is this principle that drives Shen Yun performers and their art.”
Mr. Barrier said he saw different themes and values coming through in the performance, including why we exist and where we’re headed.
“If we do not know where we come from, then we do not know where we are going—that brings suffering to people.”
“This is an unusual show,” he said. “It’s really extraordinary. It’s wonderful, it’s grandiose, unparalleled discipline—I could go on until tomorrow. It is really won-der-ful, that’s all.”
