HACHIOJI, Japan—On the afternoon of April 14, Shen Yun New Era Performing Arts presented its third performance at the J:COM Hall Hachioji in Japan. Audience members praised the production’s artistic quality and cultural content. Some said it should be performed in mainland China to promote positive change in Chinese society.

Oshio Rie, who works in musical theater production and hosting, said she was deeply moved by the performance.

“I was deeply moved. It was extremely wonderful. I watched the entire performance without taking my eyes off it, completely absorbed,” she said.

She highlighted the dance performances, particularly the classical Chinese dance pieces.

“The Qing princess dance was very moving. In the ‘Water Sleeves’ dance, the long sleeves were extended and then gathered, with very precise and well-controlled movement, full of beauty,” she said.

Ms. Oshio said she was stunned by the solo performance of the erhu, a traditional two-stringed Chinese bowed instrument with a 4,000-year history.

“I was completely stunned. Both the technique and overall level were incredible—truly unbelievable,” she said.

Having studied the erhu previously, she remarked, “It is an extremely difficult instrument, but the performer was incredibly fast and smooth, with delicate tone control and extremely high precision of the notes. The solo melody was so beautiful it was breathtaking. While watching, I was very excited and deeply resonated with it.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired heritage and share with audiences the beauty of “China before communism.”

Ms. Oshio said that the moral themes expressed in the dance stories, such as kindness and mutual respect, made her realize that she should be more mindful of her daily behavior.

She also expressed admiration upon learning that Shen Yun’s artistic director was responsible for the production’s overall creation.

“He is unbelievable! His talent is extraordinary. He’s like an incarnation of a divine being who receives information from the universe with passion, love, and deep faith,” she said.

Ms. Oshio also noted that the production combines multiple cultural and thematic elements, with Chinese culture at its core. This makes the performance extremely rich and enjoyable.

“I would definitely like to come again next year, and I want to recommend it to others,” she said.
