KAWAGUCHI, Japan—“I’m very satisfied. I obtained great enjoyment,” said Mr. Arai Nobuaki, a Ph.D. and patent lawyer, after attending Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Kawaguchi Comprehensive Cultural Center Lilia in Kawaguchi, Japan, on Jan. 17.
“The spinning in the dances is very unique. It’s enchanting. I was so touched,” he said. “And the synchronization between the dancers and the orchestra is really fantastic.”
Mr. Arai brought with him a special pair of glasses specially designed for watching shows, and said he could see each movement in detail.
“Every single one of the female dancers is very beautiful and elegant. Their beauty was breathtaking. I saw all their movements in every detail, including their fingertips,” he said. “I was surprised by their flexibility … They must have received extraordinary training.”
Experience of a Lifetime
Mr. Kawamoto Hideki is the president of Japan Medical Communication Company. He said that Shen Yun was like therapy for the soul, and everybody must attend Shen Yun at least once in their life.“I was very touched. I was touched by dancers because their skills are beyond humans. I was touched by the beauty of the scenes,” he said. “Every program has a story behind it. You will be touched even if you didn’t know the story in advance.”
“The experience encompassed a lot more than dance. I think this is why Shen Yun the top of the tops,” he said.
A Shen Yun performance also includes musical solos, of an erhu (an ancient two-stringed instrument) performance and bel canto vocalists singing Chinese lyrics.
Mr. Kawamoto was surprised that he and other theatergoers could hear the soloists very well, without amplification. “The vocal soloists are astounding! They didn’t use any microphone, but they made it.”
Watching Shen Yun Like ‘Being in Heaven’
Mr. Suzuki Kenji, the chairman of Japan Aviation Fuel Company, said Shen Yun is captivating, which attracted him to concentrate on the show from the beginning to the end.“Every program caught my heart. I just wanted to keep on watching,” he said. “It’s very beautiful.”
He said Shen Yun’s story-based dances made him feel that he was among the dancers. “The feeling is like being in heaven.”
Mr. Tanaka Sakuji, the former president of Rotary International, also said he felt that he entered another world when attending Shen Yun.
“I entered another world when the curtain first opened,” he said. “The stage and backdrop cooperate very well. I felt like I was taken into a dream.”
