NEW YORK CITY—On the afternoon of April 8, Shen Yun captivated audiences at the Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater with its classical Chinese dance and live orchestra. Among the attendees was emergency room physician Gloria Johnson, who shared her impressions of the performance.
Dr. Johnson was immediately struck by the show’s artistic excellence, praising its visual beauty and engaging presentation. “The show was absolutely marvelous! The costumes were unbelievably beautiful! It was just incredible!” she said.
She also highlighted the emotional impact of the storytelling and music: “It was very touching. The storytelling was unbelievable—very, very good—and the singing, oh my God, unbelievable!”
She loved that the performance held her attention throughout: “It kept my attention, that’s for sure—never a dull moment.”
Dr. Johnson also expressed strong appreciation for the vocal performances and lyrics, noting how clearly the songs communicated their meaning. “Beautiful! I love the way they expressed it—so everybody understood it. Everybody got the message. It was just wonderful,” she said.
Reflecting on the deeper message and cultural themes, Dr. Johnson said, “The message was about people and life and what it really means to be human—and to feel for one another. That’s what I felt, and that’s the message I got. I think almost anybody got that same message.”
Dr. Johnson was eager to share her joy and excitement with those who hadn’t yet experienced Shen Yun. “I’d suggest that almost anyone get to the theater and see it before it leaves,” she said. “It’s absolutely wonderful—an amazing show. I had such a good time.”
