ST. LOUIS—Shen Yun’s depiction of ancient Chinese spirituality intrigued Nick Ramsey. “The creator creating the world, stepping down into it, living among us, fighting an epic battle, you know, a desire to save us. … That’s our faith, too. Just think it’s interesting that there are some real correlations there,” he said.

Mr. Ramsey, senior consultant at Covenant Technology Partners, attended the Feb. 15 performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Peabody Opera House with his wife, Katie.

“Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales,” according to the company’s website.

“I just thought it was really fun to watch,” Ms. Ramsey said. She related that she felt happy after the performance.

Both the Ramseys enjoyed the dance. Some dances that Shen Yun presents are Chinese folks dances taken from the more than 50 ethnicities in China. Others are examples of classical Chinese dance, a comprehensive system known for its expressiveness and technically challenging flips, leaps, and spins.

Ms. Ramsey was impressed with the physically demanding technical elements and Mr. Ramsey by the history and stories told through the dance.

After this exposure and seeing the parallels between his faith and that presented onstage, Mr. Ramsey wants to look into Chinese religious beliefs.

“I would definitely recommend [Shen Yun]. I guess anybody who’s interested in dance and/or Chinese history or culture. It would be good for someone to show up and watch,” he said.

Mrs. Ramsey agreed, “Yeah, I would definitely recommend that people see it. It’s a lot of fun and exciting and really beautiful to watch.”

Mr. Ramsey plans “to bring my daughter next time because she would have loved it.”
