GUNPO, South Korea—Stunned by Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company’s performance, at Gunpo Culture and Arts Center on the evening of April 25, GyeonggiDo Provincial Council member Park Changsun said, “The scale and content of the performance are really amazing.”

“What I like most are the piece depicting the brush painting artist [The Fable of the Magic Brush] and another piece about the story of Zhuge Liang [Capturing Arrows with the Boats of Straw]. These outstanding performers presented them in the artistic form of dance, and made [the audience] have miraculous feeling of being on the scene,” he said.

He said, “I would like to introduce such performance to people in Seongnam, which is the area I live, and the cultural organizations in my constituency of GyeonggiDo. With Shen Yun’s growing popularity, I hope that it can develop into a common artistic feast among the residents of this city.”

“As a leader in the society, we should have an open mind, and widely spread the messages of noble artistic performances, such as Shen Yun, and share them with more people,” he added.

Very Meaningful Performance

Chung Jae-Kook, artistic director of Classical Chamber Music Troupe of National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts, was among the celebrities thrilled by Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company at Gunpo Culture and Arts Center on the evening of April 26, 2015.

Reputed to be the best flute player in Korea, Chung Jae-Kook is also an emeritus professor of Korea National University of the Arts.

“Shen Yun’s songs are overwhelming with tremendous momentum. I was awed by the high-tech animated digital backdrops,” he said after seeing the performance.

With state-of-the-art graphics technology, Shen Yun’s digital-backdrop team creates vividly animated settings, extending the stage and transporting the audience to a world where heaven and earth are one.

Mr. Chung was impressed with the backdrops and the scale of the performance. He said, “In addition to the backdrops, Shen Yun didn’t use many props on the stage, but it performed this large-scale show splendidly.”

“The performance [Shen Yun] is truly remarkable. With its perfect combination with the elegant music, the show is spectacular and heartening,” he said.

In his congratulatory remarks in honor of Shen Yun’s performance in South Korea, Chung Jae-Kook said, “Shen Yun demonstrates traditional oriental concepts on the stage with vibrant colors and magnificent scenes. It’s genuine traditional performing arts.

“Shen Yun once again lets us recognize the long history [of Chinese nation] and passes down human’s authentic values. Therefore, it’s very meaningful performance.”

‘I wholeheartedly applaud them’

“The synchronization between Shen Yun Performing Arts Orchestra and dancers is perfect. It’s not easy to reach this level for any performing arts company. I wholeheartedly applauded them for their exquisite performance,” said Yoon Seongju, manager and acting artistic director of National Dance Company of Korea.

Ms. Yoon said, “As a professional, I often paid attention to the elements of honoring heaven and respecting gods. [Shen Yun performers’] movements depicting the scenes of honoring heaven and respecting gods, including jumping, flipping, etc. were full of vitality. Their demonstrating such majestic momentum proved that they have strong confidence. In this regard, I really admire them.”

Through the universal languages of music and dance, the New York-based Shen Yun brings 5,000 years of Chinese civilization to life.

“The dance programs depicting legendary stories are really unforgettable. It’s interesting to see the exquisite dances depicting the stories regarding the Tang Monk, the Monkey King and the Outlaws of the Marsh.”

Marveling at the music that accompanied the show live, she said, “The coordination between the live orchestra and dancers is something difficult. But they did it perfectly.”
