YUANLIN, Taiwan—A former deputy of the Chinese National People’s Congress, Mrs. Xu, was moved to tears by Shen Yun’s dance, Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution. It depicts a father persecuted to death for practising Falun Gong, which is an ancient meditation system banned in China today.

“It was a true fact that people in China have really suffered tremendously. I have personally witnessed and experienced this kind of tribulation. What the 1.3 billion people in China really need are these true facts,” she said.

The New York-based International Company’s 2009 World Tour premiered at Yuanlin Performance Hall, Changhua County in central Taiwan on March 24.

Mrs. Xu, a veterinary medicine graduate from a university in China, married in Taiwan 10 years ago. After she saw the performance, memories of living through the Great Famine and various other political movements initiated by the Chinese Communist Party, flooded back.

She said the Chinese regime had come up with various beautiful slogans saying that it would save its people from hardship, but in fact they further pushed them into an abyss of more suffering.

“This is a fact, and people in mainland China really need to get rid of the suffering.”

In her childhood, Mrs. Xu said she followed her grandmother who secretly believed in God, until an “era of terror” befell them.

Many people can no longer distinguish the kind from the wicked or the good from the bad. However, the evil ones will eventually be punished by heaven, because “‘Good is rewarded , and evil is punished,’ and this is a truth,” Mrs. Xu said.

“Shen Yun can help save people in mainland China, as many people cannot live in peace nowadays due to the financial turmoil. It is very good to have this kind of show to help relieve people of stress. In this regard, we should be thankful to Shen Yun.”
