FRANKFURT—Ms. Li (an alias) was visiting relatives in Germany when she obtained the very fortunate opportunity to see Shen Yun Performing Arts on the afternoon on March 31 in Frankfurt.

She said that she couldn’t hold back her tears from the beginning of the third program. “I have never seen such wonderful programs,” she explained. “Programs with such a rich, ancient tradition can not be seen anywhere in China.”

Several times during the interview, Ms. Li found herself unable to say anything due to being all choked up.

Ms. Li, who has an arts degree, was deeply moved by the fact that “Shen Yun embellishes true masculinity and femininity. Women are like women and men are like men; these are the fundamentals of ancient Chinese culture.”

“All of the performers were very gifted,” she said. “Their movements were nice and clean. What made up each performer came from within his or her heart. There wasn’t any pretense, but rather a very down-to-earth feeling. The music was also very calm and soothing.”

Another special aspect to Ms. Li’s Shen Yun experience was how she was able to witness, first hand, ancient Chinese culture. “The animated backdrop, the entire cast of performers, and the stories were all integrated and delivered to perfection,” she said. “The colors were beautiful. The color coordination between the costumes and backdrop were splendid. No ordinary man could accomplish any of these,” she said.

Ms. Li said with regret that much of the Chinese culture is lost, as most of the performances in mainland China are “vulgar by standard” and bring the “entire arts circle to a tasteless and unrefined level.”

She added, “Performances like Shen Yun, which bring out the authentic beauty of ancient Chinese culture, are nowhere to be found in China.”

“Unfortunately,” she concluded, “Chinese people, can only see authentic Chinese culture by traveling overseas.”
