Shen Yun ‘Makes You Feel Alive,’ Says Attorney
SEATTLE, Wash.—”I’m watching them and wondering how they can keep it up,” said attorney Alan Judy after watching Shen Yun Performing Arts on June 3. “It’s very good.”
It was Mr. Judy’s first time seeing Shen Yun, and he said he was impressed by the dancers’ energy.
Shen Yun brings together classical Chinese dance, an orchestra that blends the sounds of East and West, and 5,000 years of China’s ancient culture. “Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired,” reads Shen Yun’s website.
It’s that same energy that kindled something to life in Mr. Judy. “It’s just the dancing is quite dramatic, and that with the costumes and all the movement just makes you feel alive the whole time you’re watching it,” he said at Seattle’s Marion Oliver McCaw Hall.
“And the costumes go with the dance,” he added. “It was just interesting, and when they had the ones with the flowing sleeves—it was just beautiful to watch it come out and bring them back in and put them out.”
Each costume presented in Shen Yun speaks of the ancient culture from which it was donned. Each article is a display of bright colors and the result of meticulous attention and artistic inspiration.
“They’re just quite bright—bright colors. They’re not subdued at all, and with the dance that they’re doing, it sort of brings it out even more,” Mr. Judy said.
He also appreciated the consistency of Shen Yun’s high quality that never let up for a single moment. For some performances, he said, “You’re up and down during the program.” With Shen Yun, however, there was no chance for his eyes to leave the stage.
“With all the activity they’re putting on, you’re not gonna be dozing off,” he said.
