DALLAS—Contractor Tommy Howard and hygiene coordinator Shauna Sharp had wanted to see Shen Yun Performing Arts many times in the past, but the timing had never quite worked out.

On Jan. 17, their wish finally came true when they attended the company’s evening show at the Eisemann Center to celebrate Mr. Howard’s birthday. He was full of praise even during the intermission.

“We got lucky, it was a blessing. It was very, very beautiful. Very well choreographed. It was awesome,” Mr. Howard said. “The scenery and everything—you feel good through the whole show. The whole show makes you happy.”

“The staging, the lighting, everything was a perfect balance. ... It was just a beautiful and uplifting experience,” he added.

Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance and music company. Presenting a brand-new set of programs each year, the company has been delighting audiences around the world since 2006.

The program is comprised of a series of short pieces that takes its audience on a journey through the dynasties and across the vast regions of China. Using classical Chinese, folk, and ethnic dances, as well as solo musical performances, the artists tell tales from ancient times to the present day.

Mr. Howard was impressed by the company’s use of a 3D digital backdrop to enhance the storytelling.

The performance “had a good combination of modern technology and old choreography and good spirit all combined into one,” he said. “It was beautiful.”

Ms. Sharp was especially moved by the spiritual dimension of Shen Yun. “I loved it. I thought it was just so peaceful, so beautiful,” she said.

Reflecting on the story-based dance highlighting the ongoing persecution of faith in present-day China under Chinese Communist Party rule, she added that Shen Yun’s dedication to raising awareness through dance and music “is a good way to spread love and spirituality and to overcome atheism and politics.”

In today’s world, “we need more of spirituality and things of that nature,” she said. “Of course, in America we don’t agree [with the] CCP. This is just nice and refreshing [to see] that everyone shares many of the same values.”

“I thought it was going to be amazing before I even saw it,” she said.

“We feel very blessed,” Mr. Howard said.
