LONDON—Reka Nagy-Miticzky, a dancer, model, and yoga instructor, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts’ premiere in London on the evening of Jan. 13. She said the performers’ technical ability and synchronicity were “unbelievable,” describing the experience as both inspiring and deeply impressive.

“As a dancer myself, it was technically unbelievable,” Ms. Nagy-Miticzky said. “I couldn’t believe their stamina or how perfectly they executed everything.”

She noted that throughout the performance, the dancers appeared tireless. “I was saying to my boyfriend that you forget these are people,” she said. “They don’t seem to get tired at all.”

Beyond technique, she was also struck by the artists’ expressive power and storytelling ability.

“They were incredible storytellers—super expressive,” she said. “It was always very clear what the storyline was. It was very entertaining and also really funny. We really, really enjoyed it.”

Among the many pieces performed, one stood out to her in particular. “I really enjoyed the one with the Buddha, in which the Buddha statue is stolen,” she said. “I thought it was really powerful and very entertaining. That was one that stayed with me.”
She was also impressed by the synchronization between the dancers and the digital backdrop. “I don’t think you get that here,” she said. “I feel like we’re not disciplined enough to perform like that.”

Describing the level of coordination on stage, she added, “It’s insane. It’s like you’re watching the same 20 people moving together, perfectly in sync, with perfect timing. [They display] the same dynamics and the same performance quality—it’s really magical to watch.”

Shen Yun was formed by a group of leading classical Chinese artists in 2006 in New York, with a mission to bring back the beauty and goodness of “China before communism.”

Ms. Nagy-Miticzky said this mission is very important. “Someone should be doing it, and it’s really beautiful,” she said. “We get an insight into what their culture is like.”

Overall, she said Shen Yun set an exceptionally high standard for performance. “As a performance, I found it incredibly inspiring and very, very impressive,” she said.

With humility as a fellow professional, she added that if she could speak to the performers, she would simply say, “Teach me!”
