MÜLHEIM AN DER RUHR, Germany—Shen Yun International Company presented its second performance of the year at the Stadthalle Mulheim an der Ruhr theatre in Mulheim, Germany, on the afternoon of March 5.
The magnificent dance, music, and profound cultural meanings of Shen Yun’s presentation of “China before communism” captivated audience members. During the curtain call, the audience gave a long standing ovation to the performers.
Among them was Desiree Brodka, a well-known soprano in Germany. She frequently plays leading roles in operas, operettas, and musicals. Meanwhile, as a program producer, she produces a series of popular operettas in Germany.
Ms. Brodka expressed her high praise of Shen Yun. “It is fascinating. The high-level skills are impressive. The dance performance is graceful and natural, truly mesmerizing,” she said.
Ms. Brodka found Shen Yun’s artistic design both unique and entertaining, with moments of humor, noting that it appealed to audiences of all ages.
“Characters could fly and then suddenly return to the stage,” she said. “These designs are both fun and fascinating—very unique.”
She also praised Shen Yun’s two singers, describing them as “infectious, deeply moving, and sincere. These are extremely touching pieces.”
Ms. Brodka’s husband, Gregor Duschkin—a senior executive who has served as vice president in several major companies—said he was most impressed by Shen Yun’s presentation of “universal traditional values, which are extremely rare in today’s society.”
Ms. Brodka shared the same view.
“It is very rare to see this kind of content in today’s performances,” she said. “The faith and values that once existed are hardly known today. Therefore, it is highly meaningful and interesting that some people are carrying on the mission to revive these traditions and present them to the public.”
She added that her favorite aspect of Shen Yun was the storytelling narrative.
“I especially enjoyed those stories—that kind and upright people are eventually rewarded,” she said. “These stories delight people. If people could still dream of such values and strive to restore society to that state, it would be a truly wonderful thing.”
In her view, Shen Yun delivers a clear and uplifting message: “Kindness will eventually overcome evil—even little kids can understand that,” she said. “For example, the story about the fairy peach trees presents good philosophical principles in a humorous way. Even my five-year-old son could benefit from it.”
Mr. Duschkin agreed, emphasizing the overall appeal of the performance.
“This is a captivating performance, with beautiful visuals and graceful dances,” he said. “It is definitely worth experiencing live.”
