Shen Yun Dancers ‘Were Just Defying Gravity,’ Says Former Dancer

“There was one particular dance where the girl would just flip a particular pose with the exact ‘ding’ of the percussion. There was also the way the leaps—they were just defying gravity. One of the male performers, one of the soloists, this guy just jumped and jumped. He jumped half my height, in several repetitions. That was very impressive.”

“I danced for a long, long time and did gymnastics. This is why I was looking at this and knowing how hard it is. Woah, he was doing a full split jump, eight times in a row.”

“I was very amazed about how they used so much of the different accessories—the handkerchief, the fans, the long sleeves—were all very intricately used and in very original ways. It was very entertaining, and I loved the way that the dances were choreographed and so precise.”

“[I had a feeling of] joy, it was very pleasant. It was a little bit nostalgic also because I had danced before and I [thought], ‘Oh I want to join them, except I can’t do that.’ It was very fun, and I was elated.”
