“I loved it. The costumes were brilliant, very brightly colored, and very pretty. The dance moves were very impressive and very athletic and graceful at the same time, and the backdrop and music were well coordinated, and very bright and beautiful.”

“[The dancers were] very impressive and very athletic too. You could just tell that all their sharp and concise movements were definitely well-rehearsed, and they’re in great shape.”

“I can understand [the stories], definitely, and it’s great looking at the program and having the emcees giving a little introduction before the dance.”

“Having danced a little bit myself, and knowing how much effort and work and consistency it took just to make something look so simple and easy, it takes a lot of training to get to that point to make it look so seamless.”

“I’m sure a lot of these dancers have to go through their own training program, and it’s a lifetime commitment. It’s not something that you pick up one day and decide to be a performer and a dancer. It’s something that you have to start at a young age, and if you start later you have to be even more focused.”

“It takes focus to be able to deliver a performance like that, and stamina, and you can’t do that without any discipline.”

“[I] get [a spiritual] feeling through the colors of the costume and the backdrop, and the energy through the performance, and that perfection that comes through. That perfection doesn’t come easily; you need to train yourself to get to that point—having to go through a lot of hardships and trials and errors.”

“[The energy feels] very optimistic, and lighthearted, and very relatable. ... I get the sense these are parables, kind of teaching you, kind of incorporating everyday life and reality into our purpose.”

“The baritone’s [solo] performance too reminds us that there’s more to life than what we’re dealing with day to day.”

“[Shen Yun is] absolutely wonderful, unique. I haven’t seen anything like it before, [and I’ve] been to a lot of performances. I learned a lot too. I didn’t realize that a lot of our techniques like gymnastics come from Chinese dance.”
