BRISBANE, Australia—Situated alongside the Brisbane River, South Bank is the cultural and artistic centre of Brisbane city and home to the performing arts complex, museums, and art galleries.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is currently performing at the Queensland Conservatorium Theatre situated in the heart of South Bank, bringing a unique glimpse of traditional Chinese culture to Queenslanders.

In the audience on April 9, was Ms. Roberts, a lecturer in the Department of International Business and Asian Studies at a Queensland university. She attended with her husband.

Ms. Roberts said she thought the performance was a wonderful depiction of traditional Chinese culture: “I thought it was fabulous!”

Ms. Roberts’ favourite piece captured the energy and vibrancy of the Tibeten steppes in Dance of the Snow-Capped Mountain, while Mr. Roberts’ favourite was The Monkey King Triumphs, which tells the famous tale of one of China’s most beloved characters, the Monkey King.

Ms. Roberts praised the emcees for introducing each performance in a way that allowed anyone without prior exposure to Chinese culture and stories to fully appreciate the show. “I believe your comperes are a great asset,” she said.

Speaking about what she would take away from the Shen Yun, she said, “The message that I always feel [about Chinese culture], and I felt again tonight, was kindness.”

“We'll see you next year,” she said enthusiastically.
