BALTIMORE—Mr. Edward Timlen, owner of a healthcare consulting firm, came to see the very unique Shen Yun Performing Arts on Jan. 17.

The show’s venue was Baltimore’s Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric, an ideal location for a performance that brings true Chinese culture to America, and a great fit for a venue that has presented shows of different flavors for close to 120 years.

According to the Shen Yun website, “Shen Yun Performing Arts’ dance style is built upon classical Chinese dance as a foundation, while also maintaining a number of ethnic and folk dances. This combination embodies Chinese people’s aestheticism and ethnic character.”

Mr. Timlen was very impressed by Shen Yun, commenting that the performance “is beautiful. If this show would represent the American heritage, I would be so proud of it.”

For him, Shen Yun will not be forgotten “because it can be counted among shows that have a lot of meaning behind them.”

“I just think this means so much,” Mr. Timlen continued, speaking of his admiration for the performance. “And I really do get passionate about culture, and I keep going back to this. It is such a beautiful event, why would you ever not be proud of this as a nation? And why would you be scared of how beautiful this is?

Mr. Timlen is referring to the fact that the Chinese communist regime does not allow Shen Yun to perform in China. While the regime has spent decades trying to undermine traditional Chinese culture and values, Shen Yun seeks to restore them.

It was not just the culture that impressed Mr. Timlen, as he was also amazed by the “artistic level,” saying that the performance “is beautiful, just so graceful,” especially when it comes to “weaving into the show the mythology.”

Mr. Timlen concluded by expressing his appreciation for having the opportunity to attend the Shen Yun performance, and he will carry in his mind that the show is very beautiful.
