MINNEAPOLIS—“It’s all very, very, very, very unique,” said Sam Jacobs after experiencing Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, on Feb. 14.

“I love the choreography, I love the … there’s nothing I haven’t liked—I love it, actually,” added Mr. Jacobs, former director of operations for Minneapolis Metro Transit. Mr. Jacobs won the Minnesota Public Transit Association Distinguished Career Award in 2009.

Mr. Jacobs said that he bought tickets for the performance right away when he received a Shen Yun brochure in his mailbox back in November. “That’s why I am sitting in this seat,” he said. “And I’m not disappointed.”

“Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture,” reads Shen Yun’s website. “Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired.”

That energy was certainly not lost on Mr. Jacobs.

“I don’t know that I can explain where the excitement is coming from inside me—suffice it to say that I’m not disappointed in what I’m seeing,” he said.

His wife Carla agreed. “Oh, it’s beautiful and I really like the backdrops. I love that,” she said. The couple came to see Shen Yun as part of a Valentine’s Day gift.

Mrs. Jacobs, a speech pathologist, was not only impressed by the performance onstage but also by the chance to learn more from the program booklet. “I think this brochure is fabulous, and I think it gives us a lot of information, to not only read now but to take home and learn more,” she said. “So yes, I do think it’s valuable, and I think I am learning a lot.”

Her husband was just as excited about spending an evening with his wife as with Shen Yun.

“Oh, I would recommend this to anybody,” Mr. Jacobs said. “Yes, money well spent—a great Valentines night.”
