At each performance, Shen Yun presenters introduce the dance stories, which Mr. Penny appreciated. “The narration in between helped a lot,” he said, “so you knew what to expect, but not in what sort of detail.
“The translation was just amazing, going from the narration at the beginning of each segment and then seeing it on the stage.”
Mr. Penny, the former owner of a brewery, said, “It does make you think. It does really make you be a kinder person.”
“I think you expect that from something that is Asian and Chinese, not something that I feel in my everyday life. It’s lovely to come and experience it and see something from a different perspective,” Mrs. Penny, a former communications manager, said. “There are important messages coming out of each of the stories—very strong morals in each of the stories. Beautiful.”
Many audience members have commented on the positive influence that traditional cultures have on modern society.
“It will definitely, hopefully, make people think,” she said. “I could be kinder. I could take some of the messages I’ve heard today, and bring them within me, and live my life differently.”
Mrs. Penny, a former communication manager, said, “The colors, the dancing, the synchronicity; it was just beautiful: a delight and very calming to watch.”
Mr. Penny said, “It was just absolutely amazing. I was in awe. Really was. Fantastic. I’ll definitely come and see it again.”
“It was just amazing,” he said, “when they disappeared at the back there through the screen. I thought that was just wonderful. It was great storytelling as well.”
Mrs. Penny said, “What I loved was the way the backdrop of the show added to it and gave that other dimension. You felt you were going on a journey, not just in the theater. It was beautiful.”
