ADELAIDE, Australia—Opening night of Shen Yun Performing Arts 2009 World Tour was held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on April 6. The impressive venue, known for it’s modern architecture and exemplary acoustic qualities, came alive with the sights and sounds of ancient China.

In the audience was Hank, who works in the production department of an ethnic radio station, who had become aware of Shen Yun coming to Adelaide through the station’s promotion of the show. Hank came with his wife, Jan, and both agreed the show was well-produced and interesting.

“There’s a lot of variety in it,” said Jan, a school teacher, who especially enjoyed the dancing component.

“I like the dancing myself, so I’m particularly interested in dance. I’m very impressed by the depth of the techniques of the Chinese classical dance,” she added.

Hank especially enjoyed the visual aspect of the show. The huge digital backdrops gave a very realistic quality to the scenes.

“What impressed me a lot is the background visuals, and how they merge the backgrounds into the actual performances,” he said.

Hank thought that the show offered some different perspectives which inspired some personal reflection.

“It has little to do with radio, but as a show ... I think it’s quite spectacular. It’s colorful, fun, and encourages a bit of reflection, to think about things. That’s the way I look at it,” he said.

Hank thought that Shen Yun portrays Chinese traditional culture very well. “This performance highlights the spiritual aspect of the culture which is integral, as it is the divine side. For example, the portrayal of Buddhas and gods in both the background and in the dances.”

This couple thoroughly enjoyed this colorful, cultural evening at the Adelaide Entertainment Theatre.
