BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINAMr. Seba, a professor in the arts, and Mrs. Seba sat mesmerized for the Shen Yun show and didn’t want to take their eyes off the stage. Mrs. Seba said she loved the show and Chinese culture, “Because, I tell you, we belong to China.”

“I liked it a lot, very good,” Mr. Seba said, while his wife said, “It was very gorgeous, very subtle.” Argentina—Auditorio Belgrano in Buenos Aires was the chosen venue for the July 4th Shen Yun Performing Art show, a performance by a company on its 2009 World Tour.

The audience was delighted to find that the show was truly a traditional cultural show with stories from China’s 5,000-year history, past to present.

China’s history, handed down through folklore, was shown through dance, song and music and showed the audience that China’s ancients believed in virtue and lived a moral, upright life.

The more recent history showed a darker side of China, where virtues such as truthfulness, compassion and tolerance were threatened by hatred and selfishness.

The performance was accompanied by an orchestra of Chinese and Western instruments. The audience enjoyed the melodies that combined Eastern and Western tones and many shared that it was very pleasing to the ears, though unusual.

“I liked it a lot. I really like Chinese music a lot. We listen to Chinese music often,” Mr. Seba said.

Mrs. Seba liked the tempo and the rhythm of the music and her eyes were pleased by the dazzling costumes. She also said  that coming to the show gave the audience a truly cultural experience.

“I liked it. There is so much synchronization and much precision, and the colorful quality. The costumes were all very, very lovely. It’s really wonderful to learn about the Chinese culture,” said Mr. Seba.

The darker side of present day China was displayed tastefully and many in the audience were very touched by it.

“We don’t know a lot about the actual situation going on in China regarding… I’ve read a little in the newspapers about how they are persecuting the people who practice Falun Dafa, but I think this was demonstrated in the show with compassion and optimism and a light of hope, trying to change things with a message, a message of hope,” said Mr. Seba.

Audiences throughout the world were fascinated by the backdrops that showed pictures of China and translations of songs sung in Chinese. It helped underline the stories shown on stage.

The backdrop was “excellent, very integrated one with the other. I thought the welcoming of spring [”Welcoming Spring“], the one with the fans, I thought that one was wonderful,” said Mr. Seba. In that dance, a landscape of projected, painted trees comes into full leaf and blossom as the dancers personify developing flowers. Some of the backdrop images are made from hand done paintings and some are digitally created.

Shen Yun Performing Arts will be performing in Buenos Aires until July 5. Santiago, Chile, will host three shows from July 10 to 12. The show will then return to Argentina on July 16, this time in Cordoba, performing three shows until July 18.
