NEW YORK—As an artist, Nicholas Bompart found the singers of Shen Yun Performing Arts nothing short of amazing. He watched the opening night performance in Manhattan Jan. 10 at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theatre.

Mr. Bompart, an accomplished young artist, was “blown away by the visuals,” and impressed by the subtlety of the Shen Yun dancers and vocalists’ piano accompaniment.

Having performed in 30 plays, and studied at the New York Film Academy, and Pace University’s Theater Arts Program, Mr. Bompart found much to admire about Shen Yun.

Shen Yun is “probably the best thing on the market right now,” he said.

“A Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra blending East and West, and dazzling animated backdrops,” according to the company’s website.

The New York-based company began in 2006 with the mission to revive classical Chinese culture through the “universal language of music and dance,” according to the company’s website.

“I had no idea [Chinese culture] was so rich and it encapsulates so many different elements of storytelling and talent,” Mr. Bompart said, adding that the performance enriched his own sense of culture.

He especially appreciated the vocalists, who sing in a Bel Canto style. “They were amazing.” “They delivered it so well, it was effortless almost.”

“The amount of work that must go into that is just beyond me almost,” the singer added.

Mr. Bompart was certain that he would recommend the show to his friends.

“There are many films and plays ... but this was a true experience, and you don’t get that delivery much in anyone’s lifetime,” he said.
