Packaged trail mixes usually have too much salt, bad fats like trans fats, and MSG. Making your own blend allows you to control the fats, choices of nuts and even the level of heat and flavor. This healthy snack is perfect for spicing up mid-afternoon slumps.

Ingredients:

1 cup almonds 1 cup cashews 1 cup nut of choice 4 tbsp Melt Organic or olive oil 1 tsp sea salt 1 tsp pepper 1 tsp cayenne pepper 1 tsp hot sauce
Directions:

Preheat the oven or toaster oven to 300ºF. Place nuts on a baking sheet and lightly roast (about 5 minutes). Don’t turn the oven off. Stir salt, pepper, ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper and hot sauce into the olive oil. Add the roasted nuts and toss to coat. Place nuts back on the baking sheet. Lightly toast for another 5-10 minutes. Add remaining cayenne pepper. Cool.
