HOUSTON—Physicist Jeffrey Lacey was in attendance for the Shen Yun Performing Arts Thursday evening performance at the Jones Hall for the Performing Arts in Houston.
“It’s very inspiring,” he said about the performance.
“Just this tremendous sense of Chinese tradition. You can see the elegance and working together. It’s just amazing—the synchronization; it’s quite amazing.”
Dr. Lacey, president at Proportional Technologies Inc., said he was attending the evening performance with a group of 18, including his wife, who was celebrating her birthday.
With the world’s foremost classical trained dancers, “Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture. Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired,” according to Shen Yun’s website.
“It seems very deep,” said Dr. Lacey, adding that the performance had given him a very good sense of Chinese traditions: “I see just this tremendous tradition in the Chinese community here.”
Shen Yun relies on precise and sophisticated dance techniques, an orchestra joining instruments from both the East and West, and original, beautiful costumes. Dr. Lacey said he was “absolutely” impressed by the performance. He said what stood out most to him was the discipline and the synchronization as well as the precision the performance was done with.
“[Shen Yun] is nothing [like] we have really previously seen—we’ve seen nothing like this; fantastic!”
Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of divinely imparted Chinese culture. Based in New York, Shen Yun was formed by a group of leading classical Chinese artists in 2006
“Just the precision and elegance of it all—it’s just pretty impressive,” Dr. Lacey concluded.
