Movie Theater Owner Expects to Dream of Shen Yun’s Perfection

PITTSBURGH—Catherine Harper, Waterworks and Cranberry Movie Theatre owner, experienced the wonder of the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Benedum Theater on Feb. 20.

“So beautiful, dreamlike, perfection,” she said.

The New York-based Shen Yun presents classical Chinese dance, vocalists, a unique East-West orchestra, brilliant costumes, and a state-of-the-art animated digital backdrop.

Ms. Harper was “very amazed at the background.”

Ms. Harper said, “I think the way each act was produced was perfection.” She said the dancer would be on the stage, and then they would be on the screen—a technique she had never seen.

Shen Yun dancers are “trained in classical Chinese dance, which has strict training in both physical expression and specific postures. It also involves combinations of leaps, turns, flips, spins and other aerial and tumbling techniques,” according to the website.

Ms. Harper said the costumes worn by the performers were “dream like.”

Recalling the “beautiful and mesmerizing” foot movements of the dancers, she said she told her granddaughter during the performance that she would be “dreaming of this tonight.”
Ms. Harper gave Shen Yun a 10 out of 10. “Very beautiful, perfect! Perfect!”

I am going to tell all my friends “it was so beautiful, and dreamlike, and perfection, and a bit of the history of China, and that you don’t want to miss it.”

She added that her and her granddaughter would likely return to Shen Yun next year.
