SAN FRANCISCO—Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company performed for a full house at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco on Jan 5.
Zhe Song, a Chinese international student, saw the Jan. 5 performance and was deeply touched by the show.
Mr. Song, who came to U.S. seven years ago, attended the show by himself. “This is my first time. It completely overturned my previous thinking, because I came from mainland China.”
New York-based Shen Yun was established by a group of leading classical Chinese artists with a mission to revive China’s divinely inspired culture, a culture nearly ruined by the communist regime.
“All information I got inside mainland China is negative, but here, from my own research, from friends, I am hearing different stories. So I wanted to come today to have a look myself,” Mr. Song said.
Mr. Song felt that Shen Yun represents the authentic Chinese culture, from the costumes to the traditional Chinese characters.
“We learned the simplified Chinese characters in the mainland. Although I grew up with the simplified Chinese, I still love the traditional version, because it carries our 5,000-year-old culture,” he said.
