DETROIT—Mrs. Barbara Rossman and her husband came to the Feb. 9 performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Detroit Opera House.

Mrs. Rossman, the President and CEO of Henry Ford Macomb Hospital was impressed from the start with Shen Yun’s performance. “This afternoon’s show was beautiful. It really gave us a great impression of culture, the beauty and style, the precision [of the Chinese culture].

Shen Yun’s website states, “Shen Yun cannot be seen in China today, where traditional culture has nearly been lost. Yet Shen Yun, a non-profit organization, has become an international phenomenon, bringing the wonders of ancient Chinese culture to millions across the globe.”

Mrs. Rossman was saddened by the fact that Shen Yun and it’s ’spirituality and sense of history' cannot be seen in China today.

She said,“ It was just awe-inspiring. We thoroughly enjoyed it!”

Each Shen Yun performance has two bilingual emcees who guide the audience into each vignette.

These emcees helped Mrs. Rossman deepen her insights into the culture. She said the hosts, “just reinforce the learning. It was beautiful.”

According to Shen Yun’s website, “China was once known as Shen Zhou—The Divine Land. This profound name describes a land where deities and mortals coexisted, and a belief that the divine transmitted a rich culture to the people of the earth.”

Mrs. Rossman appreciated the spirituality which is woven into the stories from ancient China. “We saw the spiritual effect there, very much so in terms of the value of creation, the reincarnations, the beliefs that were there.”

She added, “There continues to be a drive toward bringing back what China was built upon, the foundations of the beliefs. It was just beautiful.”

Mr. Rossman joined in,“Everything was just great and I look forward to next year!”

Shen Yun’s website says their orchestra “combines the spirit, beauty and distinctiveness of Chinese music with the precision, power, and grandeur of the Western symphony orchestra. The result two great traditions—producing one refreshing sound.”

The discipline and skill of the dancers and musicians was ‘awe-inspiring’, to Mrs. Rossman.

She closed by adding, The whole thing was just beautiful, and very lustrous too. Just beautiful.”
