The COVID-19 pandemic appears to have ended. The number of acute cases has substantially decreased, and our lives have gradually returned to normal—despite warnings of a potential new pandemic waiting on the horizon.
However, after four years, we still don’t know how the virus found its way to humans. Even without clear answers, there may be lessons we can draw from questioning how we ended up in a global pandemic.
