In the wintertime and on into the spring, the body tends to retain more water than at other times during the year. Kapha is naturally high in the winter and the spring, which means that the water and earth elements naturally predominate in the environment and in the body. In simple terms, this translates to more fluid retention (water element) and excess weight (earth element) in the winter and spring.

The digestive spice cumin provides just the antidote you need to get rid of that excess fluid retention and weight during the heavy, watery wintery months. Cumin is most famously employed to warm the digestive process so food is assimilated and digested comfortably. Its pungent taste warms and stimulates blood flow to digestive organs. Cumin is one of the ingredients in the famous Ayurvedic digestive, detoxifying, and diuretic formula called CCF tea (Cumin, Coriander, & Fennel).
