The number of antidepressants prescribed every year has more than tripled in the last two decades, and some estimates suggest that more than 37 million Americans currently take antidepressants.
The problem is that these medications don’t work for up to one-third of the people they are prescribed for, and they have side effects that range from insomnia and digestive problems to headaches and sexual dysfunction.
