DUBLIN—The head of research in Dublin airport, Jan Richards, was treated by her friends to see Shen Yun Performing Arts company in their opening performance in Dublin on April 19.

“It’s my birthday and it was my birthday present,“ Ms. Richards said. ”I asked for it a long time ago,” and Janet French and Tim Smyra complied with her request.

“I absolutely loved it. I thought it is beautiful and interesting,” Ms Richards said.

Shen Yun aspires to revitalize the divinely-inspired traditions and customs of China’s cultural heritage through the performing Arts. With Chinese classical dance at the heart of its program, it combines this with symphonic music and beautiful artistry delivering a performance unmatched in its caliber on the world’s stage, as is explained on the company’s website.

“I think it is incredibly relaxing,“ Ms. Richards also said. ”I love the music; I love the mix of modern and traditional instruments. It is absolutely beautiful. I am delighted to come.”

A performance by New York-based Shen Yun includes colourful classical Chinese dance, folk dance, story-based dances retelling myths and legends, and bel canto solo singers. The unique digital animated backdrop extends the stage and transports audiences to both earthly and heavenly locations.

Ms. Richards friend Janet French also enjoyed show, commenting on the dancers.

“It made me appreciate the serenity, the elegance of the ladies dancing and the strength and agility of the men. I loved it.

“But most of all, I love the beautiful colours and the materials, the silk [costumes]. They were beautiful,” she said.
