DENVER—Karl Reeder, a visual artist and owner of Reeder Airworks, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Denver Performing Arts Center’s Ellie Caulkins Opera House on Saturday.
He thought the performance was beautiful, traditional, and educational, especially for children to see and learn.
“I just think that the past is very important, and we can’t erase it. It think it’s very important to embrace the past,” Mr. Reeder said.
New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts was founded in 2006 by a group of leading Chinese artists who had fled the persecution of China’s ruling communist party. Following the regime’s violent takeover in 1949, Chinese traditional culture underwent a period of mass destruction.
Mr. Reeder said he'd never seen Shen Yun before, and would absolutely recommend it because it was an experience that was hard to describe. He enjoyed the music and vocalist and was surprised by the digital, interactive backdrop.
“It’s very new and different and something different than I’ve ever seen before,” he said. “It’s tough to explain. It’s like telling someone what an egg tastes like.”
“It’s amazing—very well done.”
