PERTH, Australia—Clockwork Printer directors Wendy and Bruce Hawley were extremely impressed by everything they experienced when they saw Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Regal Theatre on Jan 30.

With an eye for the visual, Mrs. Hawley appreciated the image of the dancers, with their splashes of color gliding across the stage in front of the state-of-the-art digital backdrop showing vividly animated settings.

“I just loved the colour,” she said. “Very vibrant, tremendous colour, terrific costumes.”

There were many other facets of the performance that impressed Mrs. Hawley.

“I’m so impressed. It’s wonderful. Everything!” she said. “The choreography, of course, is amazing. The artists are the greatest standard, and so I’m really enjoying it and looking forward to the second half. Absolutely fabulous!”

Passed down over thousands of years, classical Chinese dance is one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.

The Shen Yun website states, “Classical Chinese dance is rich with expressive power. Through expression of bearing and form, beautiful dance movements bring out the inner meaning of intrinsic thoughts and feelings, reflecting the peculiarities of human nature, the standard for human conduct, moral concepts, mental state, one’s value system, and so on.”

Mrs. Hawley appreciated the ability of the dancers to convey the meanings and stories of the dances.

“It draws you in, and every performer there is drawing you into their atmosphere and the story,” she said. “I think the word is vibrant, really.”

‘I’m in Awe’

Mr. Hawley agreed saying the dancers and musicians were very talented.

“Brilliant! Very precise,” he said “The most impressive thing for me is the discipline and the choreography.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s divinely inspired culture which has been systematically destroyed under communist rule. Mr. Hawley was very inspired by the company’s mission and the courage of the performers.

“It’s really very impressive. It’s inspiring,” he said. “To see passionate dancers and passionate musicians putting this show on stage is just overawing … The tradition, the belief, and the discipline behind the dancers, so important … Absolute passion, and belief, spiritual belief.”

“I’m in awe.”

Both husband and wife agreed that Shen Yun is a must-see performance and a real cultural experience.
