NEW YORK—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company completed its third show at Lincoln Center on Saturday evening, Jan. 11. As the Chinese New Year is around the corner, many Chinese people attended the show to experience the authentic Chinese culture which no longer exists in China.

Ms. Sun, a businesswoman from southwestern China, Yunnan, sat alone with a peaceful and delighted smile on her face during the break.

“The show is very beautiful. It presented the beauty of China’s traditions and dance in an orthodox way. The show is very pure, clean, and authentic.” She said.

“The performance of every single dancer gave me a sacred feel. They are not pretentious. They gave you nothing but the feel of magnificence. They present beauty in a very sacred way.”

Ms. Sun is especially impressed by Shen Yun’s beauty, saying, “The show depicts different kinds of beauty, the beauty of elegance and grace, of liveliness, of the magnificence of the Han Dynasty, and of the passion of the Yao girls, and so on. It portrays all kinds of beauty. It’s very beautiful.”

Since coming from southwestern China, Ms. Sun is familiar with the culture of China’s ethnic minorities. She praised the dance of China’s ethnic minorities in Shen Yun, saying “The dance is very wonderful. They do not play up the dance, but represent it authentically and naturally.”

Ms. Choi also comes from China. She attended Shen Yun with her American husband. She enjoyed this spiritual feast, saying, “This is my first time seeing Shen Yun. It is also my Christmas gift. The show is very good. It is gorgeous.”

Mr. Jiang, over 60 old, has lived in the U.S. for many years. After seeing the show with his wife, he was invigorated and delightedly walked down the stairs like a young man. He thought that the costumes in Shen Yun are orthodox.

Mrs. Jiang was also full of praise. “It’s very good and very touching! The dance is excellent, the hosts explain each number very well, the singing is very wonderful, and the stories are great. It is inspiring.”
