KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan—After watching Shen Yun’s performance in the afternoon on March 8, Dr. Lee Chun-Cheng was reluctant to leave the Cultural Center, “It was like I had a dream that was so enchanting, I didn’t feel like waking up so soon.”
Being the founding father of the Chairman Association of Artistic Organization in Kaohsiung, Lee was amazed by the quality of the stories, artists, and stage design presented in front of him. “The ancient stories were told through the aid of modern technology.
“Absolutely stunning, it is the first time I see this kind of stage performance in Taiwan,” he said.
Shen Yun is a traditional dance and music company based in New York. It aims to revitalize the 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.
“The majestic live music matched all the art elements on the stage flawlessly. It was amazing,” said Lee. “The bright colors were presented in a harmonious way so that they were dazzling but not vulgar. They looked elegant and were unique to the Chinese culture. The overall presentation was just unbelievable.”
Lee wished that he could have seen the performance earlier. “I am in my 80s and have read a lot about the Chinese history. I was very moved by those stories but nothing compared to how I felt in these short two hours. The feeling was very direct and inspiring. Shen Yun is indeed outstanding.”
Traditional Chinese culture believed in the connection between humankind and gods.
Through the performance, Lee experienced the core spiritual values of Chinese civilization. “The Chinese people are very smart, but besides that, they strictly follow a set of values, and that is Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.”
