On the border between Montana and Canada, former rancher and rodeo star, widower Dan (Joel McCrea), is tracking the “only mustang they couldn’t catch in last year’s round-up,” Shoshone, (pronounced Shoe-show-nee). On the way, Nika (Nika Mina), an orphaned American Indian teen and a runaway from school, persuades Dan to take him along. Nika’s parents died in a blizzard. With the reward money for catching the mustang, Dan hopes to recoup his losses as a sheep farmer. Who knows, things might work out for Nika, too?
