PHILADELPHIA—World-renowned Shen Yun Performing Arts has been impressing audience members of Philadelphia all month long at the Merriam Theater, and on Feb. 22, 2020, Kelly Roach and her young daughter were among those delighted by the journey through 5,000 years.
“It is breathtaking,” said Roach of “The Business Catalyst,” a consulting strategist, author, and philanthropist. “It is everything and more that everyone said it would be, it is a must-see—multiple times.”
New York-based Shen Yun was formed in 2006 with a mission to share the traditional Chinese culture on the world’s stage through music and art. Thirteen years later, the artists have grown the company to seven equal-sized contingents that now tour 150 cities globally.
Roach said the performance was “so inspiring, so inspiring.”
“Delicate and strong, fast and slow, emotional, beautiful,” Roach said.
The dynamic performance created feelings of excitement and transcended the every day for Roach.
“It’s just beautiful; it transports you to a different world,” Roach said.
Traditional Chinese culture is divinely inspired, and the 5,000 years of ancient China were centered around the concept of harmony between heaven, earth, and humankind. With classical Chinese dance as its foundation, Shen Yun tells stories from ancient myths and legends, and brings to life various dynasties, regions, and ethnic groups of China.
Roach was amazed by Shen Yun’s mission to revive this history and culture and lauded its success.
“I think it’s amazing, I think it’s so cool. “I’m here with my 5 and a half-year-old daughter,” she said. “I think it’s amazing to be able to expose her to that culture and begin that conversation with her.”
“I think it’s awesome to have a conversation where we are accepting and we are exploring, and we are looking at religion and spirituality from all different angels,” she said.
