SAN FRANCISCO—Shen Yun Performing Arts once again graced the stage of the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco on Jan. 11. Performing for a sold out theater, theatergoers like artist Davina Pallone and Lisa were very excited to be in attendance.

“It’s beautiful. The colors are really bright,” said Ms. Pallone. “The costuming is gorgeous and it’s really well coordinated with the backgrounds.”

“Every costume in a Shen Yun performance is presented with brilliant colors, displaying a splendid spectacle. Bright colors are used to tailor and recreate hundreds of new pieces each season,” explains the Shen Yun website.

Lisa was drawn to the story titled The Power of Compassion. “I love the dance about compassion. That one moved me. It’s way more than I expected.”

“Shen Yun’s mini-drama pieces draw upon stories and legends that span China’s history from the Yellow Emperor and through the Tang and Song dynasties and all the way to the modern day,” explains the Shen Yun website.

“I really like the magic paintbrush,” said Ms. Pallone. She was referring to the performance titled, The Fable of the Magic Brush. “The use of the video is really ingenious and fun.”

The state-of-the-art digital backdrops enhanced the performance for Davina, “I thought it was a really good use of the video. It made the characters look like they were going far behind and then how it went under water. I loved it. It was very smart and very creative.”

“Shen Yun is bringing back this glorious culture that flourished in China for 5,000 years through music and dance,” says the Shen Yun website. Lisa thought the show was “rich with culture. Culture that is very important and needs to be hung onto and shared; it would be a shame to lose it.”

Shen Yun travels next to California’s capital city, Sacramento, for three performances on Jan. 13–14.
