Animation Designer Loves Shen Yun’s Interactive Backdrop
George Goodchild, designer, producer and creative director at Nickelodeon Studios and his wife Ellen Goodchild, an animation producer of 25 years, enjoyed the Shen Yun evening performance at The Soraya (formerly Valley Performing Arts Center) in Northridge, Calif., on April 24, 2018. “I appreciate the color, the brightness of it. I’m having a good time.”

“I love [the interactive backdrop] I think it’s very good. I like the minimalism of it, where you don’t have anything on the stage itself, and how quiet everything is. You can’t hear those people touching the ground or anything. It has a very light touch.”

“All the girls are very beautiful, and all the guys are very handsome. And I love the hosts. And the one guy looks like Steve Carell [a movie star].”

“[The live orchestra is] beautiful!”

“Oh, I love the Chinese music. I always love that type of music. Beautiful arrangements.”

“The colors are beautiful. They are very bright. That’s just fascinating to see how that blends in together.”

“I appreciate the dance. I think they are doing a good job. ”

“A fine cultural experience. I would say that it’s a shame that this wouldn’t be shown in the country of their origin [China]. I’m not sure what’s going on there. But I guess it’s because of the communism. They'd just get you by the throat.”

“The ancient culture, traditions that you see there—they are being squashed.”

“I love that [mission of this group to revive the traditional culture and values].”

“We need more of stuff like that, not just the Chinese culture, but across the globe. We’re losing it all.”
