WASHINGTON—Mr. Harry Sheetz, a former aerospace engineer, left the Kennedy Center Opera House in awe after having watched Shen Yun Performing Arts’ opening performance on Jan. 21.

“What is there not to love? It’s wonderful! The choreography is incredible, the synchronization by the dancers is unbelievable, and the costumes are beautiful,” said Mr. Sheetz.

According to the New York-based Shen Yun website: “Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture. Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired.”

“Every scene that they presented was different, exciting, and wonderful,” said Mr. Sheetz of Shen Yun.

Shen Yun dances recount ancient myths, bygone heroes, or celestial paradises, according to the website.

Mr. Sheetz said Shen Yun’s performance “presents the Chinese culture.”

“Unfortunately the Chinese people are unable to express themselves spiritually, and I understand they’re being suppressed of their spiritual nature,” said Mr. Sheetz, adding he predicts that the Chinese soul, which is so strong, will win over eventually.

Mr. Sheetz said he was deeply impressed by the performance, and will tell people, “You have to see the Shen Yun show.”

“It’s phenomenal, it’s beautiful, and it’s more than what I expected—truly. And I expected a lot!”

His parting words were “I want to send a message to Americans to find out more about the Chinese culture, and you can do it by watching the Shen Yun show at the Kennedy Center.”
