DALLAS—“I love every minute of it,” said Hugh Lantz, managing director at the investment firm Wells Fargo Advisor, after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts.

“Really outstanding,” Mr. Lantz said, at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas, Jan. 3.

The New York-based Shen Yun revives 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, which Mr. Lantz said he had known only little about. But through Shen Yun’s unique music blending East and West and its dancers performing traditional Chinese dance, Mr. Lantz picked up a lot.

For instance, he noted the scholars of ancient China meditated and regulated their breathing while studying.

“[The] dance portrays the story of history, of China, thousands of years ago,” Mr. Lantz said.

The performers made a lasting impact on him as well, as the open and friendly demeanor they carried was welcoming and kind. Shen Yun’s dancers perform ethnic and folk dances—from the many minority groups spread across China—and classical Chinese dance.

Classical Chinese dance is a vast and independent system of dance, as the emcees explained, which includes its own unique training system and difficult jumping, flipping, and tumbling techniques.

“They just move like they’re floating across the stage,” Mr. Lantz said.
