BUENOS AIRES, Argentina—The Ópera Theater in Buenos Aires was filled to capacity as Shen Yun Performing Arts presented its tenth local performance on April 19. Among those in attendance were Pilar Judais, a lawyer for the municipal government of San Isidro, and her daughter, architect Pilar Giudice. After experiencing the performance together, the mother and daughter spoke about the visual impact, artistic excellence, and cultural depth that left a strong impression on them.
“It was spectacular—the synchronization, the costumes, all so beautiful,” she said. She added that when the curtain first rose, what struck her most was the vivid combination of color, precision, and the distinctive Eastern aesthetic. “We love it, it’s absolutely beautiful.”
She also praised the live orchestra as “magnificent, truly excellent.”
Ms. Giudice shared her mother’s enthusiasm. “Yes, the colors and the costumes are incredible. We had never seen anything like it. Very beautiful, very nice, and also very unique,” she said. She further noted that the opening act stood out for its visual design and special effects.
Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired heritage and share with audiences the beauty of China before communism.
Shen Yun’s mission to revive traditional Chinese culture and values resonated strongly with both women. Ms. Judais described this as her biggest takeaway from the performance. “They are trying to preserve their tradition, not modernizing it or anything. It’s very much their own aesthetic, and I like that,” she said.
Ms. Giudice added that the performance also gave her new insight into contemporary China. Ms. Judais noted one aspect that particularly surprised her: “Nowadays, it’s something they cannot see there [inside China]. That really shocks us.”
Coming from a different cultural background, Ms. Giudice found it especially meaningful to experience the spiritual dimension of traditional Chinese culture through dance. “Because it’s such a different culture from ours—you might only see something like this in movies. To experience it through dance is really very beautiful,” she said.
She also appreciated the inclusion of singing performances within a dance-centered program.
Ms. Judais was impressed by the soprano performance, too. “It’s very different from what we usually listen to, so that makes it quite special,” she said.
Both mother and daughter expressed heartfelt admiration and encouragement for the artists. Ms. Judais said, “They are incredible. They are excellent—they should continue doing this throughout the whole world, showing what their tradition and their culture are.”
Ms. Giudice echoed her sentiments: “I feel the same—they inspire many people, and they are excellent at what they do.”
