MONTREAL, Canada—Modern communication devices allow us to talk and look up anything we want easily, but when was the last time we saw something so beautiful that it spoke to our soul? Diane Laroche, a professor at Université TÉLUQ, shared that seeing Shen Yun moved her deeply.
“The performance provoked an elevation of spirituality, of the soul. It touches the soul, so it is excellent!” said Ms. Laroche.
The artists of New York-based Shen Yun, in their dedication to bringing true beauty to the stage, not only require themselves to excel in their art but also to remain pure and good at heart.“I really liked the spiritual side, all the spirituality that came out and the deep values, the human values,” said Ms. Laroche.
“It is certain that we felt purity. You could feel what they carry inside. It’s soul to soul,” she added.Shen Yun’s mission is to revive the essence of 5,000 years of civilization in China before communism. Due to its focus on reviving traditional culture and its presentation of the truth of events under communist rule in present-day China, Shen Yun is not able to perform in China.
It’s clear to me that this show couldn’t be done in China, and I think it’s a good opportunity to be able to show it elsewhere—of what’s going on in terms of exploitation and non-respect of certain spiritualities that people try to practice.
“We are lucky to be able to do our spirituality like we want. To be free of that,” said Ms. Laroche.
Shen Yun tackles some serious subjects in its performance, but audience members say that every dance leaves them with a sense of hope.Ms. Laroche said the performance gave her goosebumps. She was able to feel the presence of higher beings and saw the light that the divine emanated coming from the performance.
“It’s an entity, there was the light,” she said.“I would say I did not see through the dancers, musicians. What I saw was that there was something superior that was there, and that was above and that was complete,” said Ms. Laroche.
