MIAOLI, Taiwan—A Taiwan enterprise chairman was very excited after attending Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Miaobei Art Center in Miaoli on Feb. 25. He encouraged all Taiwanese to attend.

“No words can describe how amazing Shen Yun is,” said Mr. Huang Yung-lung, the chairman of the Zavtrod Innovation Corp. “A person must attend at least once in his life.”

“It’s majestic! It’s astounding!” Mr. Huang said he likes Shen Yun, “All programs cooperate with each other seamlessly. I was really very touched. I have never seen anything like Shen Yun.”

Mr. Huang said Shen Yun dancers are the best in the world, performing difficult movements accurately and beautifully.

“The live orchestra is stunning! I have very enjoyed the music. The music actually brought great joy to my soul,” he said.

Mr. Huang said Shen Yun benefits the audiences and society. “You have to attend Shen Yun. It’s very worthwhile,” he repeated.

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company, and has a mission to show the beauty and goodness of “China before communism.”

‘Pleasant to the Eyes and Entertaining Heart’

The secretary general of the Chinese Traditional Religions Association Hsinchu Branch also attended Shen Yun on Feb. 25. He said the performance was amazing.

“Shen Yun made me feel very relaxed. The colors changing, the presentation of the figures and stages … I always like beautiful things. Shen Yun is gorgeous from beginning to end,” said Mr. Tu Shun-lung. Mr. Tu is also a winner of the Taiwan National Model Worker award.

Mr. Tu loved the colors in Shen Yun. He used a four-word idiom to describe Shen Yun’s colors, translating into “pleasant to the eyes and entertaining to the heart.”

“The colors transitioning and changing in Shen Yun follow the particular rules. From the costumes to the dynamic backdrop, all colors in Shen Yun are very chic and elegant,” he said.

Mr. Tu said he is the kind of person to keenly observe details, and that Shen Yun was very well-designed in every aspect, not only in colors.

“From the choreography and production to performance, every detail in Shen Yun has very strict requirements. It requires all artists to be very talented ones,” he said.

For example, he said, “I observed the dancers. They danced like one person. Exactly the same movements at the same time. I watched them very carefully,” he said. He added that Shen Yun dancers are amazing in techniques and synchronization.

Mr. Tu enjoyed Shen Yun’s backdrop, to which he said “how can a 3-D backdrop coordinate with the dancers so seamlessly!” He described how the dancers jumped, flipped, and even flew into the backdrop, and his awe during the performance.

“This is my first time to see a backdrop as wonderful as Shen Yun’s,” he said. “Other theatergoers and I were all very surprised and were amazed by it.”

Each Shen Yun performance consists of nearly 20 vignettes, presented through highly-expressive art forms such as story-based classical Chinese dance, original orchestral music performed live, soloists who sing in the bel canto tradition, animated digital backdrops, and more.
Mr. Tu said Shen Yun is perfect and fantastic in every aspect, which brought him an extremely magnificent feeling.

“The whole show is organized in a manner very compact and orderly. After watching one scene, I was looking forward to the next one,” he said. “Attending the show is like boarding on a time machine, I have traveled to different dynasties through China’s history.”

Mr. Tu said the arts have no boundaries, and Shen Yun’s art delivered to him profound values.

“I thought Shen Yun delivered virtues such as respect for others, tolerance of our differences, cooperation, and appreciation of others,” he said.

“Everybody should take the chance to attend Shen Yun in person. It can give you a different enjoyment,” he said.

For 5,000 years China’s civilization was built on values and virtues from the spiritual teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, virtues like loyalty, propriety, wisdom, justice, and benevolence—values that are universal and shared the world over.

‘It Opened My Mind’

Ms. Lin I-chun, the president of a business hotel and a jewelry company, said her soul was purified by Shen Yun.

“No matter the stories, the dance, or any other aspects, Shen Yun is very fascinating! The show is very exquisite,” she said. “It opened my mind to an international level, and expanded my horizons.”

Ms. Lin said the background technology Shen Yun used was very advanced, and the traditional values Shen Yun delivered were uplifting and inspiring.
“Shen Yun gives our Taiwan society a very positive impact,” she said. “Especially parents should take their children to attend the performance, because Shen Yun can improve children’s bodies, minds, and souls to the best condition. This is a best education, and children will enjoy it.”
Every year, Shen Yun puts on an all-new production, including new choreography, music, costumes, and backdrop sets. The Shen Yun 2023 season will be its biggest yet, with its eight equally sized touring companies set to visit more than 180 cities across five continents.
