HOUSTON—Texas patrons enthusiastically welcomed Shen Yun Performing Arts for their second performance of the 2026 season at Jones Hall.

Having already seen Shen Yun over five years ago, Houston-based business owner and artist Farah Habib returned with her family to see the matinee performance on Dec. 27.

“It’s perfection,” Mrs. Habib said.

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company. Since 2006, the performing arts troupe has graced stages worldwide with brand-new shows every year—new dance sequences, new costumes, and new compositions played live by the Shen Yun Orchestra.

With a master’s degree in Fine Arts, Mrs. Habib appreciated Shen Yun’s mission, which is to present “China before communism,” and revive China’s 5,000 years of traditional culture.

“The storylines were very good … they started from the core beliefs [that] bring humanity closer,” she said.

“Art is the one medium that opens your mind … opens your heart. It can bring souls together,” she added. “We just keep our minds open, our hearts open, and that’s how God wants us to coexist in this world … to find common ground.”

A family member who accompanied Mrs. Habib was amazed by the company’s patented method of integrating a 3D animated backdrop with the stage performance. It allows the performers to magically travel back and forth between the stage and the background projection.

“What really excites me is when they make the transition, jumping into the screen and then coming out of the screen … I’ve never seen that before,” he said.

China was once known as “The Land of the Divine,” and Shen Yun presents this culture by drawing upon the Middle Kingdom’s rich tapestry of Buddhist and Daoist philosophies.
In the past, artists looked to the divine for inspiration and cultivated virtue in order to create uplifting art. Today, Shen Yun’s artists follow in this noble tradition, which is why audiences feel there is something different about Shen Yun, says the company’s website.

“When they’re dancing, it’s not only the movement of their bodies, the flow of the dances, or just how much practice they have … It’s like their minds are free, their spirits are free,” she said. “That’s where everything happens.”

“If perfection exists, this is what it is,” Mrs. Habib said.
