CHARLOTTE, North Carolina—Shen Yun Performing Arts gave two performances at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Feb. 20 and Feb. 21. Audience members were impressed by the beauty and color of the performance.

Christ Storm, an author and podcaster, said, “I feel the importance in our arts: in theater, music, dance, painting, writing. It is a beautiful way for us to express things that maybe we don’t have an opportunity in our daily lives. And I just so enjoyed that, that they were able to work that into their art.”

Terry Hudson, the host of rBeatz radio, said, “When you bring the visual back screen in with these incredible dancers and costumes, that message stays more in your heart, that hope stays in your heart.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from ”China before communism,” while exposing the brutal oppression of faith by the Chinese communist regime.

“It really touched my heart in a deep way, to maintain our freedom of speech and to not be afraid to speak out against evil. And it made me more aware of what is happening in China but also [gave me] a keener awareness of what might be happening even in our own countries that we need to be aware of and speak out against or for,” Ms. Storm said.

“I feel China in my heart, and it’s hard for me to say that. It’s sad for me, seeing them, that they can’t enjoy [their] freedom right now,” Ethel Fisher, a lawyer, said. She said it was her hope that Shen Yun may awaken the conscience of the people—especially young people and future generations—so history teaches us not to repeat evil.

“With all the things that happen to these groups, they still are strong in their belief and I think that’s so important in today’s world, where there are so many advances. And not to lose perspective and believe in a greater good,” radiologist Maribel Urrutia said.

Based in New York, Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006, and has grown to eight simultaneously touring companies. Each year, Shen Yun brings an all-new performance, with brand new dances, music, costumes, and backdrops.

“People that come see this, the moments and the message will stick with them for life,” Mr. Hudson said.

Beth Boone, a retired school principal said, “Music and arts, the beauty of it is what’s inside. It’s a passion that you have inside. And so I think the love that they have for the dance inspires the beauty.”

Shen Yun will be in Salt Lake City, Utah, from March 13-18.
