HOUSTON—Designer Luis Perez was captivated by Shen Yun’s brilliant use of colors, and the divine messages of the performance left him uplifted at the Jones Hall for the Performing Arts in Houston, Dec. 28.

Through music and dance, Shen Yun seeks to revive 5,000 years of China’s of divinely inspired culture.

According to Mr. Perez, that divinity, such as with the human spirit is “not something that you can separate; it has to be together.”

An important component of each Shen Yun performance is its use of original costumes. Presented with brilliant colors to display a splendid spectacle, every detail of costuming in Shen Yun is given meticulous attention and is a result of artistic inspiration and careful polishing.

“It’s like you’re flying actually when you see all the colors,” Mr. Perez added. “See the people dancing, and the fabric—it’s absolutely stunning,”

Shen Yun’s costume artists collect countless designs of traditional attire to present authentic attire that comes from China’s divinely inspired traditional culture. They use bright colors to tailor and recreate hundreds of new pieces each season.

Mr. Perez also found Shen Yun’s digital backdrop helpful in creating a story for the audience to easily follow along with. Shen Yun uses vividly animated settings that serve to extend the stage and transport the audience to a world where heaven and earth are one.

For Mr. Perez, Shen Yun’s blend of technology, dance, and choreography “helps you to fly away and try to figure it out, where everything comes together. It’s quite spectacular to see that.”

He concluded that Shen Yun is not an experience to be missed. “You have to be there looking at everything, what everybody does. That is just unbelievable, absolutely stunning,” he said.
