VIENNA, Austria—“The silk was unparalleled and the blaze of color—all of that was out of this world,” said Ms. Neuhauser who was in the audience at the Wiener Stadthalle for the Shen Yun Performing Arts matinee show on Sunday, April 5.

Ms. Neuhauser makes hats. She is very interested in beautiful colors and valuable fabrics.

“It is the quality and especially the silk, which gives it a special flair. The color combination was truly successful, and all in all absolutely beautiful. I just don’t have enough words to continue. We all loved the show. We are a big group, as I brought along my daughter, grandchildren, and just everyone. We are all here.”

When thinking of the times when European ladies wore hats, she shared, “I must say that at those times the fashion was much more pleasing than it is today. And the old China is so fascinating, especially the cherry blooms on the backdrop during the fan dance [Welcoming Spring].”

This fabric expert looked closely at the quality of the fabrics, “This was the best silk, and to use the silk for the dancers and the flair of it. Most of them were silk costumes. What else also fascinated me were the trousers that the ladies wore under the skirts, with all the embroidery—it was absolutely fantastic.”

She knows very well that silk affects movement. “Yes, for certain, for certain. It affects the effortlessness and the easiness of the walk. It just was all so super.”

And the technologically advanced 3-D backdrop was noticed by Ms. Neuhauser right from the beginning. She noticed the birds. “And when the dancers stood above there, it first looked just like a picture, but the clothes fluttered in the wind.”

The color combination was thrilling, she said: “The orange and yellow tones, and then suddenly they appeared onstage in blue and turquoise.”

When asked if she had any connection with Chinese culture, Ms. Neuhauser remembered, “In the past I always loved to look at Chinese pictures. Whenever I go to a Chinese restaurant, I always admire the Chinese paintings.”
