SEOUL, South Korea—Shen Yun Performing Arts World Company finished its 14 performances in South Korea on Feb 19. A member of a panel directly under the Korean president was touched by Shen Yun, and said it was a production you couldn’t find elsewhere.

“This is a very special performance. It talked about sensitive topics that other performing arts haven’t brought up. This is a very touching show,” said Mr. Lim Chae-hong, a member of The Presidential Committee of National Unity and the chair of Seoul Hope Forum, in Seoul on Feb. 19.
New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company, and has a mission to show the beauty and goodness of “China before communism.” For 5,000 years China’s civilization was built on values and virtues from the spiritual teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.

Mr. Lim praised Shen Yun presenting Chinese history, and even the current China, on stage using dances.

“Shen Yun has completely reflected the bad things that the Chinese Communist Party has done. This is really very good,” he said. “Shen Yun is very brave to present these truths. I want to applaud all artists in this performance.”

Mr. Lim said the artistic forms that Shen Yun adopts and Shen Yun artists’ expressions are excellent.

“The dances, the backdrop, and all other details are so novel. And the music is at a very high level,” he said. “Even the emcees were extraordinary when they introduced the programs.”

Mr. Lim was impressed by the high techniques of Shen Yun dancers and the choreography.

“When the curtain first opened, the divine beings came down to the earth from the heaven. The scenes on stage are astounding. They are fabulous,” he said. “We all heard heavenly maidens when we were very young. They were resurrected in Shen Yun.”

Mr. Lim appreciated both the artistic values and moral values that Shen Yun presented.

“I felt the spiritual values Shen Yun delivered. Shen Yun connected the classical tradition with the current society. It’s amazing!” he said. “I enjoyed it very much!”

‘Life-Experience’

“If you haven’t attended Shen Yun, you must attend at least once in your life. Otherwise, you will regret it!” said Mr. Kim Dong-woo, founder and president of the Kim Dong-woo Surgery Clinic.

Mr. Kim heard Shen Yun about 10 years ago, and he wasn’t able to attend a show until Feb. 19, and he saw the performance with his wife..

“I felt wonderful!” he said. “I didn’t expect that I would be shocked by the stunning pleasure Shen Yun brought to my eyes and ears. It’s fantastic.”

Mr. Kim said he felt Shen Yun is magic.

“The dynamic backdrop is outstanding. The dancers entered the backdrop and then flew to the air!” he said. “The design is awesome.”

Mr. Kim and his wife praised the dancers.

“The female dancers are gorgeous and elegant,” said Mr. Kim. Mrs. Kim said: “The male dancers are more impressive. Their skills and techniques are very high.”

Mrs. Kim said Shen Yun’s male dancers’ movements are masculine and valiant which bring energy to audiences.

Mr. Kim appreciated the values he felt conveyed in Shen Yun.

Shen Yun told us the values of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. It told us that people can become better if we can cultivate our hearts,” he said. “This is very true and is very a good value.”

Each Shen Yun performance consists of nearly 20 vignettes, presented through highly-expressive art forms such as classical Chinese dance, original orchestral music performed live, soloists who sing in the bel canto tradition, animated digital backdrops, and more.

Mr. Jeon Im-bum, a former commander of the Army Special Operations, was impressed with Shen Yun.

Mr. Jeon won 11 medals during his 35 years and four months of service. He is the Korean general who received most honors during service after the Korean War.

“There’s no words that can describe how magnificent Shen Yun is,” he said.

On Feb. 24, Shen Yun Performing Arts World Company will kick off its Taiwan tour in Miaoli.
