HONOLULU—City and County Council member, Rod Tam, brought his wife and friends from as far away as San Jose, Calif. to watch the opening Shen Yun Performing Arts show in Honolulu.
Council member Tam represents downtown Honolulu and other regions of Hawaii and initiated a certificate of recognition to Shen Yun and the hosting organizations, New Tang Dynasty Cultural Center, and the Falun Dafa Association of Hawaii.
Following ths show, during the VIP reception, Mr. Tam said that he was delighted with the performance and thanked Shen Yun for bringing Chinese heritage and culture to the city of Honolulu and to the world during his speech.
“I want to embrace in terms of the whole focus of what Shen Yun presented to us tonight. This talent is showing the Chinese heritage and culture. And I want to thank you from the citizens of the city of Honolulu for bringing this forth,” said Mr. Tam.
Mr. Tam is a fifth-generation Chinese who has been to China many times for diplomatic meetings. He has embraced international relationship between the East and West and states, “Hawaii is in the center, or the core, and the meeting place for all ethnic groups and countries to gravitate in terms of economical and political harmony.”
The state of Hawaii has over 100 different ethnic heritages that are celebrated and valued. Mr. Tam values greatly the preservation of culture and heritage and mentioned that China no longer emphasizes these values like the United States does. “But here in Hawaii, we do. We are very fortunate,” said Mr. Tam.
“That’s why I want to thank the performers for their display of my heritage and culture,” Mr. Tam added.
Mr. Tam concluded by saying, “We are happy to be an ethnic group here within the state of Hawaii within the other ethnic cultures. What a wonderful place to be ... Mahalo and Aloha.”
